Hélène Cixous: A Bibliography
Eddie Yeghiayan created this site in conjunction
with the series of lectures Hélène Cixous presented
at the University of California at Irvine in 1990 (cf. UC Irvine
Critical Theory Resource) and continues to update it. It contains a virtually comprehensive list of the author's works (by year of publication) and wide coverage of critical studies (by authors' names). All of its authors and
citations can be searched in boolean combinations, a feature that
is useful, for example, in tracing collaborative efforts (e.g.,
Cixous and Ariane Mnouchkine).
Other extensive bibliographies can be found in the
following works:
Cixous, Hélène and Mireille Calle-Gruber.
Rootprints: Memory and Life Writing. London: Routledge,
1997 (on reserve)
M. Sandré and E. Prenowitz have divided the
author's work into various categories and listed translations
separately by language.
Sellers, Susan. Hélène Cixous:
Authorship, Autobiography, and Love. Cambridge: Polity Press,
1996. (on reserve)
The Hélène Cixous Reader. Edited by Susan Sellers. New York: Routledge, 1994. (on reserve)
French Feminist Theory: Luce Irigaray and Hélène
Cixous: A Bibliography. Compiled by Joan
Nordquist. Santa Cruz: Reference and Research Services (Reference
Department, University of California, Santa Cruz), 1990. In the
series Social Theory: A Bibliographic Series. No.20.
This relatively small bibliography represents a careful
effort to scan journal indexes, so it includes some material not
found elsewhere. It contains a list of bibliographies in related
fields from the 1980s.
Selected Works (in chronological order)
This list is not comprehensive, and includes only
published books and collections. For the full range of works
by Hélène Cixous, consult larger bibliographies
such as those noted above.
Novels, criticism, essays, and mixed collections
(later English translations are noted after the original
French editions)
